Being a Christian standing upright on God’s Word can sometimes be a difficult task. And often, we can find ourselves forgetting how we got here in the first place. I know I often ask the question of what I should do better to become more effective in my life as a believer. So in this article, I have unpacked five simple habits and changes believers can enact to supercharge their lives as Christians. These things are simple in nature, easy to understand, yet sometimes challenging to tackle. And yet, these are the essential building blocks every Christian should strive to have in the tool belt.
The first habit is to be in the Word.
1. Being in the Word
II Timothy 2:15 NKJV
“Study to show yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
Psalms 34:4 NKJV
“I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears.”
Jeremiah 15:16 NKJV
“Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.”
We often forget the simplest way to to know God is to study His scripture. 2 Timothy explains it all. In order to achieve the standard of living God has ordained for us, we need to know His promises. And it all starts by reading scripture. Your measure of faith is built by hearing and hearing the word of God.
2. Having a consistent prayer life
Prayer is mentioned over 600 times in the Bible. It’s a point of emphasis. Much of the Christian walk is spent in the secret place in fellowship with God talking to Him. Ask and ye shall receive is a basic principle in God’s Word.
I Thessalonians 5:16-18 NKJV
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
Matthew 21:18-22 NKJV
“Now in the morning, as He returned to the city, He was hungry. And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, “Let no fruit grow on you ever again.” Immediately the fig tree withered away. And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither away so soon?” So Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done. And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”
3. Obedience and surrender
Nothing can be achieved in the Christian life without surrender and obedience. Without it, we are just doing our own thing.
James 4:7-8 NKJV
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
II Corinthians 10:1-5 NKJV
“Now I, Paul, myself am pleading with you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ—who in presence am lowly among you, but being absent am bold toward you. But I beg you that when I am present I may not be bold with that confidence by which I intend to be bold against some, who think of us as if we walked according to the flesh. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,”.
4. Living on mission
Live on mission. You read the Word. You’re already in prayer. So now let’s walk out in that. And be steadfast and unmovable always abounding!
I Timothy 2:3-4 NKJV
“For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
Matthew 5:16 NKJV
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
5. Being in community
Lastly, and perhaps the key to it all is surrounding yourself with like minded company. You are who you surround yourself with. It is said you are the average of the five people you hang around the most. Keep wise company.
Ephesians 3:14-21
‘For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.’
Hebrews 10:24-25 ESV
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
With these five simple habits, your walk will see tremendous peace, results and blessings. May God continue to bless your life as you go about glorifying Him. See ya in the next article! God bless.
